Since 1994 Dr. Hatch-Maillette has held multiple roles in research projects focusing on substance abuse treatment, HIV risk reduction, and gender-specific treatment. Her clinical work has specialized in the treatment of drug and alcohol addictions and comorbid depression, anxiety and trauma. In addition to her work at the UW, she is also a licensed clinical psychologist with a private practice in Seattle.

In March 2018, Dr. Hatch-Maillette was named Co-Director of the Pacific Northwest Node of the NIDA Clinical Trials Network.
