Name: Physiological Effects of Alcohol Questionnaire
Acronym: PEAQ
Year: 2009
Developer: Hendershot, Christian S. | Neighbors, Clayton | George, William H. | McCarthy, Denis M. | Wall, Tamara L. | Liang, Tiebing | Larimer, Mary E.
Description: The PEAQ is a 23-item instrument for assessing expected physiological drinking outcomes. Participants are asked to report changes in physical feelings or bodily sensations they expected after alcohol consumption. There are five subscales (Flushing, Sensorimotor Impairment, Dizziness/Nausea, Physical Sensations, and Heart Rate) with five items per subscale, except for the Heart Rate factor, which has three items. Relevance for populations other than Asian Americans is unknown.

The PEAQ was designed to parallel the structure of the Comprehensive Effects of Alcohol Questionnaire so that expectancy items were preceded by the stem "If I were under the influence from drinking alcohol..." and followed by scales assessing both the likelihood (1=disagree, 4=agree) and subjective evaluation (1=bad, 5=good) of each drinking outcome.

Population: Asian Americans
Instrument Type: Self-administered questionnaire | Assessment
