In the 1980's, the WCTU in Illinois began holding a large exhibit at conventions in Peoria. "Always present is 'Dr. Wise,' the mechanical man with a smile and animated features, who is positioned above the pages of a book which turns electrically. The book gives facts and figures about the harmful effects of alcohol."
